Start of development of the CABLINE®-CA IIEQ PLUS 112G, an active copper cable for the enterprise

Oct. 11, 2024

I-PEX Inc. (Headquarters: Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, Representative Director: Takaharu Tsuchiyama, Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market Code: 6640, hereinafter I-PEX) has started developing an active copper cable (Active Copper Cable, ACC), CABLINE®-CA IIEQ PLUS 112G, which is ideal for enterprise communication equipment. In addition to being compatible with 112 Gbps PAM4, the new product has a space-saving design that contributes to the improvement of signal integrity (SI) performance in high-speed communication environments such as servers and switches.

CABLINE®-CA IIEQ PLUS 112G will be exhibited as a reference at OCP 2024 which is to be held in San Jose, California, USA, from October 15, through October 17, 2024. The start date of mass production is yet to be determined.

Background to the development of the CABLINE®-CA IIEQ PLUS 112G

In recent years, the demand for high-speed data transmission in enterprise communication equipment such as servers and switches has grown rapidly. To meet this demand, there is a need for enhanced signal integrity (SI) performance for the components used in each system.

Moreover, thick cables with 36 AWG or more rigidity are generally used for cables used in the equipment of servers and switches in order to reduce transmission loss. These thick cables can interfere with the cooling airflow within the device and lower the it's performance.

With these market issues in mind, I-PEX has started developing the CABLINE®-CA IIEQ PLUS 112G, an active copper cable type connector that uses a thin 46 AWG cable to support high-speed transmission of 112 Gbps PAM4.

Features of the CABLINE CABLINE®-CA IIEQ PLUS 112G

The CABLINE®-CA IIEQ PLUS 112G is an active copper cable that combines the high-speed transmission of 112 Gbps PAM4 with the thin 46 AWG cable and the compact design of the CABLINE® series.

  • By using a small diameter 46 AWG cable, the airflow within the system is improved, contributing to enhanced heat dissipation and airflow management.
  • Similarly, the use of a small diameter 46 AWG cable improves flexibility and simplifies wiring within the equipment.
  • An equalizer in the cable minimizes transmission loss and achieves high-speed transmission of 112 Gbps PAM4.
  • Electromagnetic noise countermeasures are implemented by the space-saving design of the CABLINE® series and fully shielded construction of ZenShield® of the connector part.

About CABLINE® Series

CABLINE® is a series of I-PEX micro coaxial/discrete cable connectors ideal for connecting displays, camera modules and servers. In 1996, I-PEX developed the world's first micro-coaxial connector, CABLINE® I, and is a pioneer of micro-coaxial cable connectors suitable for high-speed transmission. The CABLINE® series has secured the top market share as a connector for notebook PC panel connections.

About ZenShield®

ZenShield® is an excellent EMC solution for I-PEX miniature connectors. Connectors using ZenShield® technology enable flexible board design, such as placing connectors close to antennas, especially in electronic devices with wireless communication functions that need to address intra-system EMC issues.
