I-PEX Inc. (head office: Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture; president: Reiji Konishi; hereinafter I-PEX) has relocated Tokyo R&D Center, its connector development base in Machida City, Tokyo, to a new site within the same city, and expanded it in the process. The center went into operation at its new premises in May 2025.
Leveraging Tokyo R&D Center, I-PEX will focus effort on expanding its connector business by developing connectors for niche fields that are differentiated by small and low-profile designs, and by strengthening its electrical and optical transmission route technologies that support next-generation digital communications technologies. These two goals are set forth in its medium- to long-term plan, I-PEX Vision 2030.

Background and objectives of the relocation and expansion of Tokyo R&D Center
Tokyo R&D Center was established in Machida City, Tokyo, in 1994 as the head office of the (then) connector manufacturer I-PEX, Co. Ltd.*1 It has been at the core of I-PEX's connector business ever since, with achievements including developing CABLINE® I—the world's first*2 micro-coaxial connector—and CABLINE®-VS—the industry standard*3 for connecting laptop computer display panels.
The new Tokyo R&D Center will pour even more effort than before into researching and developing something I-PEX particularly excels at: connectors that support high-speed transmissions and high frequencies. To this end, in addition to installing a 3-meter method semi-anechoic chamber for EMC and high-frequency evaluations, we will expand our equipment lineup for optical transmission, as well as for various design, measurement, and analysis processes. In addition, we aim to attract and develop engineers by creating a more employee-friendly work environment. In this regard, we will leverage (among other things) our experience*4 from creating a working environment at I-PEX Campus (Ogori City, Fukuoka Prefecture), and the tremendous convenience of having a location just four minutes' walk from Machida Station on the Odakyu Line. (I-PEX Campus is a core base of the I-PEX Group that we established by renovating a university campus and opened in 2020.)

About our connector business
In the I-PEX Group's connector business—which is its mainstay field of activity—we leverage our strong support for high-speed transmissions and high frequencies to independently develop and manufacture small connectors for high-performance electronic devices used in things like PCs and smartphones, and automotive connectors used in things like automotive lighting and electronic controls. We operate globally. Our CABLINE® series boasts a 60% global share in internal connections between laptop screens and main units.
