Donation of RENERATH Solar Street Lamp to Azumano Elementary School, Ogori City—Contributing to Disaster Prevention Measures at Designated Evacuation Shelters and Sustainable Energy Use

Mar. 19, 2025

I-PEX Inc. (Headquarters: Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, Representative Director: Takaharu Tsuchiyama, hereinafter I-PEX) has donated two RENERATH Solar Street Lamps (hereinafter Solar Street Lamps)—one of which is equipped with a security camera—to Azumano Elementary School in Ogori City, Fukuoka Prefecture (hereinafter Azumano Elementary School). These solar street lamps utilize repurposed lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) from electric vehicles (hereinafter repurposed LiBs).

The presentation ceremony was held at Azumano Elementary School on March 18, and was attended by the Mayor of Ogori City, school officials, and a representative from I-PEX.

Azumano Elementary School is a designated evacuation shelter for Ogori City and is adjacent to the I-PEX Campus (Ogori City, Fukuoka Prefecture), which is the hub of I-PEX. The Solar Street Lamps to be installed at Azumano Elementary School will not only be used as street lights and security cameras on the pathways on the school grounds, but they will also be used as emergency power sources at the designated evacuation shelter in the event of a disaster, taking advantage of the fact that the batteries can be removed and used as a power source. In addition, we expect them to be used as part of the children's education on disaster prevention and sustainable energy use.

I-PEX will continue to work with schools and local governments in Fukuoka Prefecture and throughout Kyushu to promote the introduction and utilization of I-PEX's storage battery system series RENERATH, including Solar Street Lamps. Through RENERATH, we aim to contribute to the achievement of safe and secure local communities and the achievement of a decarbonized, resource-recycling society through the use of storage batteries.

Main Features of RENERATH Solar Street Lamp

  • Equipped with high-quality repurposed LiBs
The product will achieve a stable energy supply by utilizing long-life, and high-performance repurposed batteries from electric vehicles.
  • Available as an emergency power source in the event of a disaster
In the event of a power outage caused by a disaster such as an earthquake or heavy rain, the built-in battery box can be removed from the solar street lamp and used as a power source in evacuation shelters, etc.
  • Remote monitoring function using IoT
Battery status can be monitored remotely in real time for efficient maintenance and operation.
  • Expandability as a smart pole
The product is equipped with security cameras, Wi-Fi equipment, digital signage, etc. and can be used as a smart pole. One of the two solar street lamps donated to Azumano Elementary School this time is a smart pole equipped with a security camera.
  • Contributing to the achievement of a decarbonized, resource-recycling society
Combining storage batteries made from recycled lithium-ion batteries from electric vehicles with charging via solar panels will contribute to reducing the burden on the environment.
